Unforgiveness
is a toxin. Forgiveness is the only antidote. We need to see unforgiveness for
what it is - a dangerous spiritual condition. It poisons the heart
and mind with bitterness, distorting one's whole perspective on life.
Anger, resentment, and sorrow begin to overshadow and overwhelm the
unforgiving person, a kind of soul-pollution that enflames evil appetites and
evil emotions. In a world today where unforgiveness consume our lives with
family members, siblings, parents, husband & wives, children,
co-workers, church members, friends and the list goes on; we often imagine that
by withholding forgiveness, we hurt the other person. Jesus Christ, an entirely innocent and righteous
victim, in the midst of all that was afflicted upon Him; left a model of
forgiveness and submission to the Father's will, rather than one of retaliation
and revenge. 1 Peter 2:22:24 "He committed no sin, and no deceit was
found in His mouth." We live under a mandate of forgiveness.
It brings peace, it washes the slate clean. It sets love in motion. Jesus knows all of our
flaws and mistakes and yet He forgave us and He sees the best in us. God
is a God of restoration; when we start the forgiving process and place the
broken pieces in His hands, He will start the restoring process and release us
from the prison wall of an unforgiving spirit. He cares about every area of our
lives.
